Fahriye Evcen Offered Lead Role in the Turkish Adaptation of Wuthering Heights

Bozdag Film has officially offered actress Fahriye Evcen the lead role in its newest ambitious project — a Turkish adaptation of Emily Brontë’s classic novel Wuthering Heights.

According to media reports, the production has approached Evcen for the role of Catherine, while two major Turkish television networks are currently negotiating the broadcasting rights. The project remains in the development phase, but if everything goes as planned, it could premiere in mid-January.

The series is expected to be directed by Cemal San, known for his visually striking and emotionally impactful television work. Producers are reportedly considering two adaptation styles: a fully modern reinterpretation or a semi-modern retelling that preserves the dramatic tones and dark romanticism of the original novel.

Public Reaction and Casting Debate

However, the casting decision has sparked discussions among viewers. Catherine in the original novel is portrayed as a young woman between 17 and 20 years old, leading to mixed reactions toward offering the role to the 40-year-old Fahriye Evcen.

Many viewers highlight that audiences this season have shown a strong preference for younger, fresh faces, such as Ayla from Tasacak Bu Deniz, who quickly captured public attention.

Still, fans remain curious to see how the production will balance market expectations, faithfulness to the source material, and audience demand — and whether Fahriye Evcen will accept a role that could mark a new chapter in her career.
